Biography Ernie Malik ERNIE MALIK has worked in motion picture marketing for over two decades after having commenced his industry career in movie exhibition (i.e. movie usher) during high school in his home state of New Jersey. ![]() While studying for his M.A. in Cinema Studies at New York University, Malik worked for a small film distribution company in NYC before beginning a lengthy tenure at United Artists (first as a computer technician, then in international publicity). He relocated to Los Angeles in 1983 upon MGMs purchase of United Artists. Less than a year later, he moved once again, this time to Chicago, where he assumed the duties of the companys Midwest publicity coordinator. In 1988, he branched out into the freelance market as a production publicist on the Tri-Star comedy, Loose Cannons, starring Gene Hackman and Dan Aykroyd. Over the past thirteen years, he has compiled a list of credits that includes on-set publicity for such films the Home Alone trilogy, Theres Something About Mary, EDtv, Me, Myself & Irene, Save the Last Dance, "Jurassic Park III," 12 Monkeys, and two Oscar-nominated titles -- The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, both directed by Frank Darabont. "The Majestic" represents his third project with Darabont. His industry collaborations also include work with such stars as Bruce Willis, Tom Hanks, Martin Landau, Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman, Heather Graham, Julia Stiles, Wes Bentley, and directors Chris Columbus, John Hughes, Terry Gilliam, Walter Hill, Ron Howard, John Carpenter, Peter & Bobby Farrelly and Joe Johnston. Although work has dictated travels to such locales as Vancouver, Miami, New York, Los Angeles (and many points in-between, even Hazard, Kentucky), he still resides in Chicago with his wife (she was the theaters candy girl during his ushering days in N.J.) and two children. |
