Journal 7 April 20 (Day 32) With the production office staff sending me (cross country) a copy of the new edition of Titus Enterprise newspaper, I note that Jim Carreys picture still dominates the front page -- not a shot taken by either Titus or still photographer Nelson, but one of his publicity headshots, being held by Ferndale Mayor Jeff Farley, in news coverage of our visit to the Ferndale elementary school last week (a huge success, it appears, based on Titus' story featuring photos of co-star Landau, and editorial comments on page two saluting several of the companys staff for their participation). ![]() When we visited the school last week for their career day seminar, we heard beforehand that some of the students (and maybe a teacher or two) were disappointed that actor Carrey could not be part of the festivities arranged by school librarian Leanne McCullough. Jim also felt he was missing out on a fun time, so he sent over an autographed photo for the schools trophy case. What did he write? To the fine students at Ferndale Elementary School: Eat right, study hard and smell good always! Your pal, Jim Carrey. (I also heard that before the school secured the photo for display, newspaper editor Titus took it to a local photo store and had 390 duplicates made for each-and-every student in the school). Adjacent to the Carrey photo is the skeptical headline Is it a wrap?. Indeed, weather has proven formidable this week in the companys attempt to wrap up the remaining scenes before our scheduled move south to Ft. Bragg and Mendocino. Todays voluminous call-sheet (another split day with an 11:00 a.m. start) contains eleven different scenes (or parts of scenes) to be shot, a tough days work under the best of conditions. But, the best of conditions dont happen in Ferndale today, as rain drenches the daytime scenes, allowing completion of only sc. 49pt -- Int. Town Hall Basement: Adele opens the ground floor window, shows Luke the monument. With the precipitation abating by nightfall, Frank and his troops hit Ferndales Main Street once again for a number of set-ups in front of The Majestic theater set (sc. 94, 95, 96 and 98). During the day, I check in with colleague Nelson to ascertain whether the company will complete all mandated scenes and move south to our new location over the weekend. He confirms with producer Behnke that we will still be in Ferndale on Monday. The information allows me to book my flight back to San Francisco (after a brief stopover home in Chicago after the funeral). Instead of a two-hour drive north to Ft. Bragg, I now must return to Ferndale, 270 miles north of the City by the Bay. Talk with you next week, back on the set again. |
